‘Xohay Foundation: An Aid Of Kindness’ On A Journey To Help The Needy

‘Xohay Foundation: An Aid of Kindness’ is an Assam based organization that has been working for the betterment of the underprivileged people in the society. A young team of 7-10 members are working actively in various projects including feeding the hungry, women’s health, helping the flood victims,  supporting the people in need along with a view to bring positive changes in the society. In an interview with Shrinkhol, Papiya Bora, the founder of Xohay Fondation talks about their journey so far-  

“So it was the beginning of the current pandemic and I was really stressed out with the sudden lockdown. Due to the revenue crisis, I had to lose my job too and was left with little money for myself. But, seeing people suffer in this pandemic I was devastated. I felt miserable that I wasn’t being able to help them in a way I should have. Not only I but am sure many of us were going through the same where we wanted to do something but weren’t. The only thing instead you could do was bake-eat and binge watch.

So, one fine day in the month of July,2020 I thought of doing a Feed The Hungry Program where like-minded people like me who cannot contribute a lot but little can donate any amount they wanted to and we can provide something to the orphans. I just kept thinking “I have my parents at-least to take care of me..what about these little kids who have no one to belong to?”

And to my surprise in the midst of that pandemic many helping hands came forward and in no time we found ourselves amid a group of 10-15 people with a good amount of donations received. I felt as if this was the best thing one could ever feel and that this world still has “goodness” in it. That is how we started off under the name “Feed the Needy” and gradually widened our arms to greater good.

It was after 2 months people from India and outside also started showing interest in our cause and we thought we should continue this as an organization and form a team. Then we came up with this new name “Xohay Foundation” where Xohay means Help in Assamese. 

Now you may think why did we change our name from Feed the Needy to Xohay Foundation? Well, we started with the prime thought of working to free hunger, but eventually we came to know there are other things to look at too. Like women’s health, child’s future, poverty, the natural disasters etc. and keeping our forte only up to food wasn’t getting enough. People wanted help in different problems and we wanted to be the one who does that for them. We have done projects of providing relief for the flood affected people, we have fed people on the streets who are homeless and get very little to eat, have raised awareness in remote villages where women have no idea about the usage of sanitary napkins and how to maintain their health. 

We are a new association of persons currently with 7 members in working who plans and executes. I, Papiya Bora, is the founder as well as the Director of Xohay Foundation has a firm belief that with our work one day we will be able to reach the hearts of thousands and bring a difference in people’s lives. We have been privileged enough to be born with a family, guardians, friends, needed wealth & knowledge but, there are more than we can imagine who do not have these things and the required help is bare minimum. In that case, we do what we should: HELP THEM!

Our team continuously strives for the betterment of the society. We are just 6 months old and there is a long yellow brick road ahead of us where we think we will be able to be a change to be an aid of kindness to these people. Help us Help Them. Donate us!
