Masterchef India 2023 Winner from Assam

Masterchef India 2023 winner Nayanjyoti Saikia from Tinsukia and first runners up Santa Sarma from Amlighat, Marigaon both these chefs have made Assam immensely proud. Securing the top position in Masterchef India, which is considered as one of the toughest cooking competitions in India is not a piece of cake. Lakhs of competitors from different regions of India come to participate in the competition. Expert home cooks from all across India with their strong passion for cooking present top notch dishes in front of the judges. Coming up from a small state like Assam, presenting top standard dishes and be the winner is itself astonishing.  As a native of Assam, I got goosebumps when judge Ranveer Brar said at the time of result announcement-

‘Iss kitchen mein aaya tha Bharat aur reh geya Assam’

Meaning- India came to this kitchen and what left now is Assam!

What is Masterchef India and how it started?

Masterchef is basically a cooking competition and a television series that was originated in the UK in the year 1990. The well known film director, businessman, screenwriter, television producer and publisher Franc Roddam created this tv show. This form later on revived and updated in 2005 for BBC. This updated version was sold internationally and the first country to adapt this was Australia. Now more than 40 countries including India have this show. Masterchef India started in 16th October 2010, produced by Endemol Shine. The winner in the 1st Masterchef India competition is Pankaj Bhaduria. Now the show has completed 7 seasons.

Who are the judges of Masterchef India?

The recent Masterchef India season 7 judges were- Vikas Khanna, Garima Arora and Ranveer Brar. These super talented celebrity chefs brightened up the show and judged the dishes made by the contested with their utmost expertise. Here is a brief about these super judges-

 Vikas Khanna

Vikas Khanna was born in Amritsar, India to Davinder Khanna and Bindu Khanna. He graduated from Welcomgroup graduate school of hotel administration. Khanna also received an honorary doctorate at GD Goenka University. In India he worked for Taj Hotels, Oberoi group, Welcome group, and Leela Group of Hotels. He worked at the Café at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York before he joined Junoon in Manhattan,  an upscale Indian restaurant that has owned Michelin star award for six consecutive years since 2011.He owns two restaurants in Dubai named Kinara and Ellora.

Garima Arora

Garima Arora is an Indian chef that grew up in Mumbai. She graduated from  Le Cordon Bleu in Paris in 2010. She worked with top chefs in the world before opening her own restaurent in Bangkok named Gaa in the year 2017.In 2018 Gaa received the prestigious Michelin star award and Garima Arora became the first Indian women to have Micheline start. In 2019, Garima’s restaurent Gaa got the 16th rank in the list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants and  Arora was named Asia’s Best Female Chef. This beautiful talented chef is also the first woman judge in Masterchef India.

Ranveer Brar

Ranveer is popularly known as a host for television food shows and as a youtuber with a cooking channel with over 6 million subscribers. Ranveer was born and brought up in Lucknow. He did hid graduation from Institute of Hotel Management, Lucknow and after that he joined Taj Hotel in Mumbai. In 2001, he opened his restaurant in Goa named ‘Morisco’, a seafood restaurant, ‘il Camino’ an Italian restaurant and “Fishtail” a small open air barbeque restaurant. Master chef India, Dum laga ke India, The great Indian Rasoi, Chef’s special, Ranveer’s café etc. are some of the popular tv shows that Ranveer hosted.

Masterchef India 2023 winner from Assam

The three finalists of Masterchef 2023 are- Suvarna Bagul from Maharashtra (2nd runner-up), Santa Sharma from Assam (1st runner-up) and Nayanjyoti Saikia from Assam (Winner).

That was quite an astonishing moment for Assam, when two super talented home cooks were standing hands on hand as the top 2 and results were about to disclose. But it was quite obvious that Assam is going to win! And here with greatest proud, a brief about the toppers from Assam-

Nayanjyoti Saikia

Nayanjyoti from Tinsukia, Assam was the winner of Masterchef season 7. A very humble, sincere young boy from a small place competed with super talented home cooks of India and won the trophy.  Nayan did his B.Tech from GIMT, Guwahati and was working in a tea garden in his hometown. But soon his life was about to change. It was when all his hard work in regards to follow his passion for food was soon to be recognized by Chef Vikas after seeing his instagram profile. Vikas visited Nayan’s home and ask him to participate in Masterchef. And rest is all the golden history!

Santa Sarmah

Santa was a home maker and a baker before she came to Masterchef. She was also the winner of Grihini Superstar season 2, a regional cooking competition and tv show in Assam. As she told in the show of Masterchef, her major objective was to introduce the local cuisine of Assam to the world and that’s what she did. Her ‘maan dhoniya masor tenga’, an authentic Assamese fish curry was a hit in the show.

What’s more! As native of Assam, we are just super proud and want to wish more and more success  to both these super chefs!
